When we play music, we are not constrained to play only one octave of each scale or mode. There is a pattern with each mode that lets you play all the notes in the same key that are available at the position you are when you start playing a mode, without having to move your hand up or down the neck.
Starting on the A string, in the First Position, we can play C Ionian, B Locrian, and go down to the E string and play G Mixolydian.
In the Second Position, we can play D Dorian, going down to A Aeolian on the E string.
In the Third Position, E Phrygian and F Lydian will be in the same position, going down to C Ionian and B Locrian.
In the Fourth Position, G Mixolydian going down to D Dorian.
In the Fifth Position, A Aeolian, going down to F Lydian and E Phrygian.
